About Us

Shramik Sahayog is a voluntary organization involved in social work in southern Konkan Region of Maharashtra State. The organization was started as an initiative by a socially conscious and energetic group of youngsters with a sense of responsibility in understanding the social problems and spirited to eradicate them in 1980s’. The organization was formally registered in the year 1984 under th Bombay Public Trust Act 1950 and Societies Registration Act 1860.

The focus of work was towards the livelihood issues of oppressed and deprived sections of the society in the Konkan belt. Although the initial focus was towards the livelihood issues, it was soon realized that it could not be addressed without considering the wider problem of lack of social
cohesion, gender injustice and the isolation of local tribal population from the socio-political mainstream.

In the beginning the organization established its activities towards the livelihood issues of oppressed, issues related to land tenants, tribal, fisher folks, dalits, migrant families and women of all sections. The organization also engaged in handling some important development issues such as
the environment, deforestation, education, regional development pattern etc. Presently the organization focused on some selected activities such as the development and education of deprived communities, women empowerment, protection and conservation of forests, promotion of organic farming practices etc.
